Experience
I’m a writer with 16 years (1995 – 2011) of experience. My background is journalism and business writing. I’m also a published writer of comics, short fiction, non-fiction and criticism. Here is a list of my published experience in comics and fiction:
Comics
The Grim Collection
This online endeavour is horror / suspense comics written by me and drawn by others. The Web site also features short fiction by me in the same genre. The Grim Collection launched in August 2011 and will be updated every two months. Published to date: Cutter’s Reward (August 2011), Dark Art (September 2011), The Draw of Memories (November 2011), Orphan (January 2012).
Song’s End
This 6-page comic is set during the American Civil War. It appears in the December 2011 edition of IF-X. The theme of that edition is “West”. Art is by Adam Sward and lettering by E.T. Dollman.
Synchronicity
Based on an original idea by Manoel Magalhães, Synchronicity is a 128-page science fiction graphic novel. Coloring is provided by Osmarco Valladao. Manoel, Osmarco and I are credited as co-creators. We are shopping this graphic novel around to publishers in 2011. Stay tuned for updates.
Friar & Brimstone
When Owen Gieni and I started working on this comedy Web comic in 2010 it was called Fire & Brimstone. It was put on hold when Owen landed a sweet gig with Image Comics, but the project (at the end of October 2011) started to come to life again. It has been rebranded Friar & Brimstone and launched on Keenspot in December 2011. You can read it at http://friarandbrimstone.keenspot.com/. A new page is added every Sunday.
Assassin & Son: Path of Vengeance
I was hired to bring WWE superstar Shad Gaspard’s vision to life in the form of a 256-page action-packed comic event. The script was approved at the end of August 2010. Art, letters, colors and cover art production began in the latter part of 2010. Assassin & Son: Path of Vengeance was scheduled to be published by Blackline Comics, but as of the writing of this update (November 2011) it has not yet seen the light of day. One of the founders of Blackline recently left the company so I’m not sure what that means for Assassin & Son.
Colonel
This 56-page science fiction graphic novel was created by Manoel Magalhaes and Osmarco Valladao. I served as editor, massaging dialogue, correcting grammar, etc, as a favor to Manoel and Osmarco, for whom English is not their first language. The graphic novel was completed in June 2010. As of 2011, we are shopping it around to publishers. Stay tuned for more info.
Acts of Violence: An Anthology of Crime Comics / “The Three Princes”
I am a co-creator of the anthology Acts of Violence (along with Ed Brisson, Dino Caruso, Todd Ireland and Kevin Leeson). Volume 1 was launched at the Emerald City Comic-Con in Seattle in March 2010. It is now available in comic shops because it is distributed by Diamond, the largest North American distributor of comics. It can also be purchased online at the publisher. My 30-page crime story “The Three Princes” appears in the anthology. The story was illustrated by Manoel Magalhães and lettered by Ed Brisson.
Dark Art
This 8-page horror comic was drawn byAdam Sward and was completed in the first quarter of 2010. Dark Art was published in October 2011 in IF-X and on The Grim Collection.
The Thunderchickens
The Thunderchickens is an all-ages comic about a family of superheroic chickens. It was originally conceived for DC Comics’ Zuda competition. It was written by me and drawn by William Dean Blakenship Jr. (3!LL). I am no longer involved with The Thunderchickens, but 3!LL hopes to continue its development someday,
Special Edition
I was one of the writers bringing artist 3!LL’s stories to life in the Special Edition project. The print edition of Season 1 is available at IndyPlanet. I’ve written three comics to date:
- “Ghost of the Skid”, which was published online in June 2009, and appears in the first Special Edition print collection.
- “Bell Hill Beast Intro”, which was published online in December 2009.
- “Charity”, which was scheduled to be published in 2010 as part of Special Edition Season 2 is now currently on hold. All Special Edition Season 2 projects are on hold.
Black Salt: The Last Heroes Left #1 – #6
I was hired by Owen Ratliff to adapt his motion picture screenplay into comic form. Black Salt #1 – #4 are complete and available online at DriveThruComics.com and mydigitalcomics.com. Scripts for issues #5 – #6 were written and approved in the latter half of 2010. As of February, 2011, J.C. Grande is working on artwork for issue #5. As of November 2011, I have no idea what is up with issue #5 and #6 of Black Salt.
Cutter’s Reward
This short Western / horror comic appears in the Halloween 2009 edition of IF-X. The art is by S.T. Smith.
You can buy a copy of the Halloween 2009 edition of IF-X at the Hamtramck Idea Men Web site.
Psychosis: Writer / Creator
I wrote this 96-page graphic novel. I also assembled a creative team and financed its creation. It was completed in early 2007. After shopping it around to a few publishers I decided to self-publish it through www.lulu.com. It is now available for sale.
