Last copy sold

Posted by caperaway on March 23, 2010

The last printed copy of Psychosis has sold! On March 21, 2010, a customer of ComicReaders South in Regina picked up the final copy. This customer, Neil, had purchased and enjoyed A Thousand Faces #9, which contains “Friday, 3AM“, a short fiction penned by me. He enjoyed the collection and thus returned to ComicReaders, seeking more of my work. Dana Tillusz, owner of ComicReaders, called me that day to ask if I could come to the store to sign the copy of Psychosis. I was more than happy to do so.

Psychosis was my first comics endeavour. I wrote it, hired the art team, and self-published the 98-page graphic novel in the final days of 2007. I had hoped Psychosis would open doors for me, and it has. I feel I would not be where I am today in terms of my comic writing had I not decided to commit the effort and money to producing Psychosis.

Cutter’s Reward due out in September

Posted by caperaway on August 30, 2009

Michael Marcus of the Hamtramck Idea Men contacted me recently to say they are planning to release the Halloween edition of IF-X in September. The idea is to build up interest leading into October and up to Halloween. As such, he asked for some biographical information to be included in the edition, which I happily provided. As you may recall, a short comic I wrote, Cutter’s Reward, will be appearing in this particular edition of IF-X.

He also mentioned there was advertising space available in the issue. I asked some questions and decided to purchase a 1/4 ad for Psychosis and a 1/8 ad for Bohemian-Zen.com. 3!LL and I are always looking for new ways to get additional eyeballs on Bohemian-Zen.com, and my hope with Psychosis is that the ad will help me reach the 100 issues sold mark. I’ve sold 76 copies to date. 24 more to go! I think I can do it. To that end, if you’ve not yet picked up your copy head on over to http://www.lulu.com/content/1354018.

In the Library

Posted by caperaway on June 26, 2008

I dropped off three copies of Psychosis at my local comic shop this week. The copies weren’t for the shelves. They’ve been purchased by the local library.

I’m very excited about my graphic novel being available at the local library. It means my project is now accessible to a wider audience. I’m also very flattered that the library decided to support my project and me as a writer in this fashion. I must also send a big thanks to my good buddy, Dana, the proprietor of the local comic shop, for bringing my graphic novel to the library’s attention.

Psychosis signing

Posted by caperaway on May 5, 2008

I was at both ComicReaders locations in Regina, Saskatchewan on Saturday, May 3 to sell and sign copies of my graphic novel, Psychosis. I was at the south location in the morning and the downtown location in the afternoon. I sold 26 copies, met some great people and was offered many encouraging words and general support. It truly was a memorable day.

Free Comic Book Day

The first sale occurred just a couple minutes after the door was opened at 10am. The individual who bought the copy was kind enough to allow me to snap a photo of the occasion. Visitors to the store and sales of my graphic novel were steady. There was a lot of interest in Free Comic Book Day, with a good number of dads, moms or both coming into the shop with their young kids, but also a lot of regulars checking out the free books and picking up their file comics.

Perhaps the most exciting occurence of the day was meeting a University of Regina professor that will be teaching a class about world comics in the upcoming semester. He asked me a lot of questions about my graphic novel and the process of creating it. Near what would become the end of our conversation he asked if I would be interested in speaking to his students. I said I would be honored and provided him with my contact information. The visit will probably occur in the Fall.

Related to comics in schools, earlier that week a teacher / librarian from a local high school contacted me and asked if I would be interested in speaking to a couple of grade 10 classes about comics writing. I expressed my interest. She’ll be in touch with me again in the future. The school visit will occur some time next year.

Free Comic Book Day promo

Posted by caperaway on March 29, 2008

Psychosis

I received 50 new copies of my graphic novel earlier this week. I have a couple dozen pre-sold and the rest are for Free Comic Book Day, which is Saturday, May 3, 2008. I’ll be at the two ComicReaders locations in Regina, Saskatchewan, selling and signing copies. I’ll be at the south location in the morning and the downtown location in the afternoon. I look forward to it.

I went to the south location today and set up for this promotional picture for the event. I also left a handful of copies behind. Those will go onto the rack and will be available for sale immediately.

In related news, Josh Wigler, a fellow writer working on the Special Edition project, purchased a download version of my graphic novel the other day. I thanked him heartily for his support, to which he replied: “We’re all in this together man.  If we’re not going to watch each other’s backs, who will?” I thought that was a very true and honest sentiment.
